Raising Stewards, Not Just Students | Monday Push

Hebrews 12:11 Newsletter

Good morning Reader,

Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it.

‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭22‬:‭6‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

This verse is one I’ve heard a thousand times throughout my life. But the older I get, the more it hits differently.

This Monday Push is for the parents.

Raising kids is no small task. I often think about my own parents raising four girls—how much trust it took to let us fall so we could learn. That job isn’t always appreciated in the moment: the late nights, the overtime shifts, helping with math homework you may not even understand.

Parents, thank you. Your work matters. And it’s more than just parenting—you are stewards. God has entrusted you with the care, growth, and preparation of the next generation.

As the new school year approaches, take time to think about what principles you’re instilling in your children—not just academically, but spiritually and financially too. Earlier this year, I encouraged you to give your child more responsibility around the house. How’s that going?

Just like the teacher will raise their expectations this fall, you can begin raising yours too. Transitions like kindergarten to 1st grade, elementary to middle school, or middle school to high school are major shifts. Each one comes with new challenges—more independence, harder subjects, and the pressure to grow up faster. Start preparing your child now, while there’s still time to talk and train.

Here’s where faith and finances meet:

  • When our kids are prepared, we’re less likely to get called away from work.
  • When routines are in place, we can manage our time better.
  • And when we steward well, we protect the peace in our homes.

And let’s not forget the practical side—school supplies are expensive. The average family will spend about $140 on just supplies this year, with total back-to-school costs climbing close to $900. Stewardship includes preparing for those costs too—setting aside funds, shopping sales, and involving your child in the process.

Reflection Question
What is one value or skill you want your child to carry into this next school year—and how are you modeling it at home?

Action Item
Have an intentional conversation with your child about their new grade level expectations—then give them one new responsibility this week to help them rise to it.

Prayer of the Week
Dear God, Thank You for the gift of parents. Give us the wisdom to be examples of faith and responsibility. Help our actions lead children closer to You and prepare them for life’s transitions. Remind us that stewardship starts at home. Strengthen every parent reading this. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

📆 Tomorrow I’m hosting a free webinar focused on savings and preparing well for the second half of the year. If your finances need a reset—or you're just ready to get organized before fall hits—join us for practical, faith-based guidance. Register now and invite a friend!

Have a good week,
