The authors talk about how easy it is to fix our eyes on what we don’t have instead of what’s already in our hands. And honestly, this time of year brings that struggle right to the surface. Realities start settling in about what we can and can’t do. I remember feeling that last Christmas. I was disappointed because Jonathan and I couldn’t give gifts the way we hoped. At the time, that felt like a loss. But when I look back now, I see what I missed: we were investing in our home. We did give gifts —just not on the exact day I had pictured. The gain was there the whole time; I just didn’t recognize it. So what about you? Where have you actually moved forward this year? What have you been able to do—financially, spiritually, or personally—that you might be overlooking because it didn’t happen on the timeline you imagined? Important dates have a way of making us doubt our progress. But you don’t have to live measuring yourself by what didn’t happen.
