There is Power in Unity | Monday Push

Hebrews 12:11 Newsletter

Good morning Reader,

Peter asked her, “Tell me, is this the price you and Ananias got for the land?” “Yes,” she said, “that is the price.” Peter said to her, “How could you conspire to test the Spirit of the Lord? Listen! The feet of the men who buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out also.”

Acts 5:8-9 NIV

Ananias and Sapphira are one of the Bible’s more sobering couples—but they’ve always stood out to me. Go back and read Acts 4. Everyone was giving generously to support the growth of the early church. That’s already a beautiful lesson on community and generosity.

But in Acts 5, Ananias made a different choice. He sold property, kept part of the money for himself, and brought the rest to the apostles—pretending it was the full amount. His wife knew. She agreed to the plan. It wasn’t a solo decision—they were united in it. And because of that unity in deception, they both suffered the same consequence.

I share this because, even in a hard story, there’s wisdom to gather: unity matters. Especially when it comes to giving. Whether you're married or single, how you give—and the heart behind it—matters to God.

Here are a few questions to reflect on with your spouse (or on your own):

  • What are our family values when it comes to giving?
  • What amount, if any, should we talk through before giving?
  • If someone asks for money, is it a gift or a loan?

There is power in unity. It brings clarity, peace, and purpose. Take time this week to get on the same page—because clarity in giving is part of walking in integrity.

Reflection Question
When was the last time you talked with your spouse (or reflected yourself) about your giving decisions?

Action Step
Set some clear parameters around giving for your family this week.

Prayer of the Week:
Dear God, thank You for the ability to give. I want to give with honesty and joy, not deceit or pressure. Help me communicate clearly—with my spouse or within myself—so that our giving honors You. May unity lead us to peace and purpose. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
