Sometimes the stress isn’t about the money—it’s about the silence. Before payday, take time to talk through these questions:

• What events are coming up this month that will cost money?
• What’s our limit on giving this month?
• Do we need to finish any unresolved conversations?
• Do the kids know what to expect for extracurricular activities? (If they’re old enough)

Your budget works best when everyone is on the same page. Communicate early and often, and watch the stress level go down.
