Still Time to Turn It Around | Monday Push

Hebrews 12:11 Newsletter

Good morning Reader,

Early in my career, I interviewed for a job in a new city, a completely different environment. Honestly, I tried to bomb the interview. They offered me the job anyway.

Finally Abram said to Lot, “Let’s not allow this conflict to come between us or our herdsmen. After all, we are close relatives! The whole countryside is open to you. Take your choice of any section of the land you want, and we will separate. If you want the land to the left, then I’ll take the land on the right. If you prefer the land on the right, then I’ll go to the left.” -Genesis 13:8-9 NLT

I was irritated. How dare they offer me a job I didn't want? I'm not joking, I was really upset. But I prayed about it and decided to go. I only stayed 11 months, but I came out a better person. I learned not to take things for granted. I learned who my real friends were, because they stayed connected with me anyway. I learned to do things on my own. I learned to speak up for myself. And I learned when it was time to walk away.

Check out Genesis 13 this week. Lot had a choice, and he picked what looked good. That choice eventually caused chaos in his life. Abram, on the other hand, trusted God's word that the land was his no matter which way he looked. That's a lesson for all of us: things that look good aren't always good.

Imagine choosing only by what looks good on paper, the bigger paycheck or the nicer street, and years later wondering why things still feel unsettled at home. Now imagine choosing with the full picture in view, and looking back knowing you built something that actually holds.

With a promotion or a raise, you get a choice. With a big purchase like a car or a home, you get a choice. With a loan versus using your savings, you get a choice. When you're facing a big decision for your family, don't stop at what's visible, like "more money" or "a nice neighborhood." Think about how it will actually change your daily life. Don't let "I can afford it" be the only measuring stick you use.

Reflection Question: What should you consider for your family's next big financial decision that has nothing to do with money?

If you already have a list of non-negotiables for your next big purchase or decision, you'll be able to think with facts instead of just feelings.

Prayer of the Week: Dear God, help me see past what looks good to what You know is good. Give me courage to choose with wisdom, not just my eyes. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Talk to you soon,

Latrisa
