Finding My Quiet Place Again | Monday Push

Hebrews 12:11 Newsletter

Good morning Reader,

One of the hardest changes in marriage for me was learning how to make time for God. When I was single, I could spend time with Him whenever I wanted. Those quiet hours were beautiful. I even grieved them a little, because I knew that kind of freedom with my time was changing.

Maybe marriage isn’t your reason. Maybe it’s kids, work, a business, or caring for family. Either way, quiet time with God doesn’t just happen anymore. You have to make room for it.

Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed. -Mark 1:35 NIV

People always needed Jesus. Crowds gathered around Him, and He still took time away to be with His Father. If Jesus needed quiet time with God, so do we.

We’re in the last push of the year. It’s easy to think the goal is the only thing that needs your attention: the budget, the savings, the debt, the business. But time with God isn’t a break from the goal. It’s what helps you reach it well.

This past year, I’ve been more intentional than ever about finding my “quiet place.” It isn’t perfect, but I’m grateful for the work. Early mornings work best for me. I keep my phone notifications off, and I decided I want to think about God first in my day. I journal my prayers so I can stay focused. I read Bible plans with friends and family. And I read my physical Bible instead of the app.

In those quiet moments, God has shown me where I need to grow, in my marriage, my work, my business, and my friendships. He’s also reminded me that I’m loved and that He has good plans for me. I just need to trust Him.

I’m not perfect, and I have missed some mornings. When that happens, I feel off. My mind is more scattered, and it’s harder for me to process information. When I start my day with God, I’m calmer, and I can hear His direction. And His direction is always right on time.

Reflection Question: What time of day do you have the fewest distractions? How could you give part of that time to God this week?

This week, give God just 10 minutes of that time. Start there and let it grow.

Prayer of the Week: Dear God, my days can get hectic, but that is no excuse to skip time with You. Show me my quiet place so I can hear Your voice. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Let’s not get so busy that we forget the One who woke us up this morning.

Talk to you soon,

Latrisa
